![]() Doc dresses Marty as a singing cowboy like Gene Autry whereas Marty thinks he should look more like Clint Eastwood since he’s watched the grittier, more “realistic” spaghetti westerns of the 60s and 70s. Plus it’s a simple sight gag making fun of the 50s idea of a cowboy. ![]() ![]() Doc has flashes of naiveté throughout the trilogy for comic relief and this could be one of them. Like his childlike awe for the time period influenced by whatever movies and books he grew up on or enjoyed as a young adult made him overlook the anachronism. I just always figured it reinforced how much Doc loved old west pop culture.
